Project Manager Vs Scrum Master

Please read my last blog on  'Agile' Project Manager  if you want to understand this better.         In continuation to what you have understood already, we cannot mix the Scrum Master role with traditional Project Manager role. The project management activities are still being carried out in the agile framework. Let us understand what a Project Manager does [role] and how this task is being carried out in the scrum framework        a) [Project Delivery (Planning and execution)] - In Scrum to deliver a project successfully the entire Scrum team (Scrum Master, Product Owner & Development team) will be equally committed and the ownership shifts from one person ( referring to Project Manager in traditional terms) to the whole team (Scrum team).       b)   [Resource planning/allocation] - In Scrum we have a self sustained, cross functional development team who do not need high directive/less supportive (Directive...

'Agile' Project Manager?

In software world, 'Agile' is the word you most often hear now a days when it comes to software delivery process. Agile has many approaches - Scrum, Kanban, Lean, Extreme Programming(XP), Test Driven Development(TDD). Scrum is one such Agile approach that is used to deliver complex projects in IT world. Now let me give you a brief on what Scrum is. Scrum approach assumes that you have a cross-functional, independent development teams who are self sustained to deliver the product with the help of Scrum Master and Product Owner and keeping Agile values in tact. It has its usual sprint planning sessions, daily stand-up meetings, sprint review and sprint retrospective meetings in a time boxed sprint. Unlike the traditional waterfall model where the output or the end product is possibly visualized at the end of the process life cycle, in Scrum you get an incremental product at the end of the each sprint.       Now let us analyse if there is so call...

Green Tax

Nature has everything for a man's need but not for his greed. If we appreciate the way Nature is preserving things thru biocycle, then it is better we learn things quickly. It is indeed our ignorance to acquire things that is making the future unlivable. As simple as water, air and food in today's world is so polluted, I sometimes wonder what my son (10 months old) would have when he turns 20 years or even at 10 years.      Ironically most of the management courses teach us to learn and how to make money by adding value to the existing business or create a new one. Yes sustainable businesses are indeed a lesson that we learn. Isn't the implementation of this sustainability a bigger issue today? But in the process of adding value, aren't we killing the nature? Hmm, I wonder if there is any company which has made money and not screwed up the environment.     The question is - has the time come for Governments to take extreme measures like ad...

Scrum in real life

Scrum methodology is a empirical framework built on 4 pillars - Iterative development, incremental delivery, high quality functionality, cross functional & self organised scrum teams. It is applied to complex projects in software as quite often you need to inspect and adapt during this process to reach the goal. The good old 'relay race' styled game (read waterfall model) is being replaced with 'rugby' styled game (read agile process model) to counter the complex project.         When applied to real life, isn't is how you spent your days in school or college?  Everyday we have something to learn with the help of friends, family, teachers and at times from life itself (thats the scrum team). Such a fascinating team we have in this framework. Your yearly exams are more of a sprints with some knowledge (or maybe data) added to your thought process and memory.  The dream you have set for your life as a child is the produ...

Inspirational quotes

"When the nice guy loses his patience, devils shiver" "Don't show me your attitude, my block list is bigger than my friend list" "Rule 1 : I don't care         Rule 2: I still don't"    (my quote by the way) "The less you talk, the more people think about your words" (this is provided I care...but I don't) "Learn to sit back and observe. Not everything needs a reaction" "Even the nicest person have their limits. Don't push it too far, so they don't care. If they cross the limits, they can be the scariest assholes you will find" "My biggest problem - I notice everything" "Real is rare" "Judge me by the people I avoid" : : : : list goes on...so does life.

Creative pursuits!

You only live once. That is provided you live and not just exists. I do what I like and here are my creative pursuits : - 1 hour of mindful breathing exercise to keep my concentration going and enhancing my creativity - blog when I am so motivated about the topic that I love - paint the flower pots, diyas, coconut shells as it soothes my nerves - listen to Om chanting at 432 hz...it calms me down. Other alternatives are bhajans of Sai baba, Hanuman, Shiva and Laxmi - plant a sapling (or gardening) when I like to do - walking or climbing stairs to pump me up. Believe me the cardio I do by climbing the stairs for 21 times is sufficient to put to on track for the day - crime thriller movies give me the chill in my spine especially korean ones - learning something new to keep myself younger Wish I could add more. Ah..not to forget the table tennis or pool that I love to play occasionally.

When life matters.....

Life is precious...don't ruin it by dreaming about something. If you look at the whole universe and its lifespan, our existence in it, is merely an atom in an ocean. Have you ever felt that in our 60-80 years of existence, did you make it worth while?   The first 25 years of our life, we learn so we can make a living in next 45 years(of course if you don't get burned out). After the 25th year comes your life partner and kids... the story goes on. In the quest to live a comfortable life and make a living, we forget to live.     Irony is that, we forget to even smile and be happy. Am sure most of us had dreamt of being something else when we were kids and now ended up being something else. Glad if you have stuck to it and made it. But most often we don't.  Its the hard truth of making a living that comes in a way.     Imagine if the compensation paid is same irrelevant of your field of work . You are promoted to next pay sc...
