83 - A cricketing era begins!

Today is the last day of 2021. My way of entertaining myself is: going to a movie. What else is better than the recently hyped "83", a story of the 1983 Cricket World Cup won by the Indian team.      It is a sports inspirational movie. Cricket in India is not a sport, it is a religion, as the saying goes. We worship Cricketers. But it all began in 1983, before that it was just a game. It is a movie worth watching, with a great performance by Ranveer Kapoor as Kapil Dev, the captain.         Few scenes are so heart-touching that they can bring down tears on your cheek. Like the rejection of the Indian team in Lord's ground as we were not yet recognized and respected in the cricketing arena yet. The financial situation of the Indian team was so bad that they were struggling to extend their return flight ticket for the semi-final and final game. When the cricketers got 15 pounds per day and Kapil had to wash his own clothes as it costs ...

Art of wasting time!

Today we have a lot of social networking sites which just kill your 2 hours like it is 2 minutes. Don't you agree? The havoc these sites have caused are immensely irreparable. Yet we are so addicted to these, especially the Facebook, that if you don't open it once a day and spend at least 5-10 minutes your friends might think you are not catching up. LinkedIn is another networking site that I usually login. It has articles that are really useful to me in the corporate world and is more professionally inclined.       I see a new habit that is creeping up - Cellphone gazing as I would like to call it. Every couple of mins we have made it a habit to look at the screens to see what new messages have come in. It reminds me of a short video from Simon Sinek who mentioned that su...

Passion called 'Cricket'

In India they say Cricket is a religion and not just a game. We Indians love this religion. To the extent that we call Sachin Tendulkar as God. Yes being so emotional in nature, we have our own ways to express our love. At times we take it to the extreme level, for instance the temple being built on MS Dhoni . With all due respect to Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been the one of the great captains Indian Cricket has ever seen, building a temple might be a bit extreme. But don't forget that is what India is all about. Pure passion at play.       When I was young I got this fever called 'cricket' from my uncle who used to be crazy about it. Believe me his craze for the game just rubbed off on all of us. Legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Lala Amarnath, Gundappa Vishwanath were being praised for their cricketing styles. I used to watch the India vs Pakistan matches sitting along side my family. West Indies were being feared a lot in those days for t...
