Patience, my dear, patience!

I was watching a new web series from Tharle Box called ' Kyaabre ' on my mobile, when my mom asked me if it was a movie. I had to explain what a miniature serial is or rather as we call it 'web series'. That is when it stuck me, how the new generation trends are changing our lifestyle. Be it a snackable videos, news snippets, shrunk games (T20 for ex.), short memories and finally our attention span.      I agree, we only live once...YOLO as this generation calls it. And its 'Cool' to not remember things as we can anyhow 'Google' it. Tomorrow's resumes might include hobbies like how much time we spent on social media or time invested in creating a snackable video. At the end of the day, we seem productive but in which direction? Well, hardly matters as we seem to be pretending to have achieved a lot.  There is an old Kannada saying  - ' During the daytime we see a well and at night we fall in to the one that is already seen'.    ...

Dorito Nachos made for Women!

Image
Interesting enough, Pepsi did a survey and found out that Women don't enjoy chips/nachos when it makes sound as well as when the fingers get dirty with cheese. What does Dorito do? They come up with their own version of nachos for females. Do you consider this a well customized product? A niche market yet to be conquered? Or bringing in the differentiation to increase your customer base? To me the answer is 'yes' to all the above.       Photo Courtesy - Internet Photo Courtesy - Internet        It is probably the first of its kind that I see a gender based niche market created in the food products group. We have already seen the hair-oil, beauty creams, shaving razors being craved out and made a separate product for each gender but I have not yet seen one for a food product. Isn't it an interesting move from Doritos?  We need to see how well the consumers receive this new idea and encourage it.   ...

Ads sell!!!

I have always been fascinated with advertising...especially the ones that are humorous, creative ones which touches my heart. Yeah in India, sentiments & emotions matter. Isn't that an easy way to conquer the Indian hearts easily and increase your market share? Imagine the perfect ad being cooked up with the exact dose of sensuality in it. How about a topping of humor and a pinch of creativity to make it a perfect recipe that you can savor? Isn't your dish a great one to serve now?     One common myth has been to loop in celebrities as the main actors in the ads. It does has its own advantage with the usual fan base enjoying to watch their celebs acting on the screen. But how much does it really add value? Does the content matter or the actors in the ad? I would go with content. I believe the last option and an easiest one for a marketer is to involve the celebs. Virat Kohli, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh, Amitabh Bachan, MS Dhoni are few popular celebs a...

99% giving...nah!

Hmmm...you heard it right! It is 99% giving. What makes you think I left the 1%? Do you think I missed the 1% on purpose? Is it the same logic of marketer's funda of selling a product at 99.9 rupees instead of the round figure 100 rupees? Nah...you may be able to fool the consumers using your marketing logic of not using 0 as suffix or rather the number of digits you use, but in the world of giving - no, you cannot. Give it 100% always.         Why do you need to give it 100%? You might say my intent is good (almost 99%) and I have a doubt whether I get back my returns of what I gave (1%). You lost the move! Never think of returns when you give, that is the true good intent. That is why give 100%.         I don't like marketing for just one reason. You need to lie and be unethical about how you sell. Oh, may be that is two reasons. Selling is about building the perception of an orange in mind of consumer when you are...

Dangal - Marketing lessons to learn from it

What makes a movie great? Is it the story, drama, direction, good acting or the message? Imagine all these combined together in a decent drama with a pinch of comedy added to it, to make it a perfect recipe for movie buffs. That is 'Dangal' for you.  Nitesh Tiwari has directed a good drama with an excellent sense of humor in the first half and then depicting the reality of Indian Sports issues in the second half.  Bollywood movie goers have got a good dose of sport based inspirational movies in the year 2016 - with Sultan and Dangal based on wrestling, MS Dhoni and Azhar based on cricket, Saala Khadoos on boxing.           Dangal is based on the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former wrestler who had a dream of getting India a medal. Isn't it every sportsperson's dream to win a medal for the nation?  Aamir Khan playing the coach and father's role as Mahavir Phogat has done a wonderful job. As the story pro...
