Aha...need more of sustainable villages and not AI

I just happen to watch a good speech by Andrew Ng on youtube on AI & how it can empower businesses of any scale. Please watch it before you read my blog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reUZRyXxUs4     All due respect to him, we don't need democratization of AI, but democratization of sustainable villages (like Auroville experimental village in India) as we are impacting the environment/natural resources in the name of AI. Humans don't need more education but rather less of it. We need more of wisdom & values than education.     Man is known for his 'constructive destruction' nature...and we call this as evolving. Being an Indian, I believe in ancient wisdom of ours. Even the bell curve applied to a human life tells us once you reach a certain height of gaining information or knowledge, the next step is to let go of it. After all, wisdom comes only with let go.     We are on the wrong path by giving aw...

Future @ Work

The future of work is something to ponder. The traditional 9-to-5 or 40-hour workweek is becoming obsolete for the younger generation, who prioritize faster rewards, whether in money or career growth. This shift has already led to the rise of freelancing. Over time, the importance of "time" as a primary factor for pay is being replaced by "skill." Gradually, even skills might become less critical. But what will replace skills? Perhaps, it's attitude. Maybe.     Consider the ASK model (A - Attitude, S - Skills, K - Knowledge). While knowledge is important, it’s no longer a major differentiator in an era where humans compete with AI. Information is abundant, and machines excel at processing it into insights. Skills matter to an extent, but they too might become redundant in the near future. Attitude, however, is where humans can still shine—our emotional intelligence and personal touch make a difference. At least for now, this gives us an edge.     Histor...

AI - an enabler or a destroyer?

We all know that ChatGPT is the buzzword of recent times. It is indeed the most revolutionary thing to have a conversational AI tool that can crack exams, write poems, code, help us in all ways possible. But is this a start of a new era which can destroy Human species or is this an aid to our living being? A big question, indeed. Let us find the answers.       Looking back at the history in India, when computers were introduced in Banks. Lot of banking folks felt scared to adapt to it, due to the fear of losing jobs. Fast forward to today, did they actually lose jobs? May be the ones who did not adapt and learn how to operate on a computer. The shift in the job did happen. Most of the bankers today use computers to operate. It has made their life easy. But at the same time, their mental capability has reduced.      In the process of making our life easy, we have create machines and delegate mundane tasks to them.  There i...

My experiments on ChatGPT...

The trend of AI and ChatGPT caught me too. Always fascinated with this topic, I probed my first question on ChatGPT -  Q1 - " Can I be reborn as a human?" Interestingly it gave an appropriate answer as an AI, that rebirth is a belief system in some religions. My verdict - As a Hindu, not quite the answer I was looking for. I moved on to find out does it have some fancy answer to an alien invasion. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q2 - " What would humans do if Aliens attack Earth?" Though the prediction was, it is impossible to respond to this speculation, Governments may take some action with military aid. My verdict - The answer is pretty average, I thought. I wanted to test the programming capability of the ChatGPT, I asked it to write a web development code. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Q3 - " Generate an HTML CSS Javascript puzzle to crack for the code hackathon for g...

Rediscovering metaverse!

Image
Oh great! Finally, we understood what God has created for us. After all, we have been boasting about inventions, when actually we have only been rediscovering them. For instance, we thought we invented AI (Artificial Intelligence) but we just found out the way our neurons work in the brain and discovered how to implement it in machines.       Photo courtesy - Internet         Now the latest addition to our so-called invention is 'Metaverse' (of course, it is still in the making) but imagine the hype behind it. We are just mere discoverers who seek the thrill of observations, categorizations, and implementations.           Who said we are not already in a Metaverse? If only we knew how the God simulation is and our characters are created at the hands of His, then we can only try and mimic the model again in VR (virtual reality). Yes, we will all have different avatars in the Metaverse, ...

Intelligently creative

Image
I recently started teaching a student on what Artificial Intelligence(in short AI) is. Believe me, this topic fascinated me since I graduated. In simple terms, AI is human made(artificial) thinking power(intelligence). That's when it stuck me that we humans are trying to make machines think, learn and act like we do. The worst case scenario is when the machines starts thinking for itself. Isn't that the theme of the movie "I, Robot" starred by Will Smith?     Well, I am not here to discuss the movie. What I intend to do is put a food for your thought? Are we on the right direction by giving more power to machines? We have been trying to synthesize and mimic a lot of stuff that God has made. We might have succeeded to a great extent. But at what cost? Have we really invented something? I see majorly discoveries around me.  Partly to be blamed on our education system for killing the creativity in us.     Here is the irony - we are empowering another ...

Reformations needed!

This blog is inspired by the article in economic times below on the need for Indian IT firms to reshape its technology and business model.                    Yes we in IT are undergoing the change again. We see the change coming across every 10 years...the change could be the technology, process or even the business model. Lets look at the three decades since 1991 when Indian economy opened up.        Mainframes were the most happening thing then...we then gradually moved to windows based systems like DOS and then GUI based windows NT. A major step taken towards the IT world we see today. The industry just boomed with no stoppage with Y2K adding the spice needed to keep up the growing curve. Just when we thought we are unstoppable the 2001 recession made us think are we in the right direction? Obvious downsides have helped the IT industry shape up better.         W...

Chicken or Egg first!

Image
Do you think stock market today drive the news or is it the news driving the stock market? Tricky question right...it happened to be one of the best articles I read in economic times. The answer was as simple as stock markets (or rather equity markets) drive the  news and not the other way round.        However tricky it may sound, imagine if we were driven by news? Just the sheer news on the possible fluctuation of the market due to a major crisis could have brought down the stocks for that day. Wouldn't that call for being grateful that human minds are not that volatile. Thank God. Courtesy - Internet        At least the dilemma of which drives the other between stock markets and the news is resolved. But aren't we as humans faltering again in the field of AI (Artificial Intelligence)? Today we have started building robots as an experiment and to aid our routine tasks. Gradually it would mean we will be mo...

Man's creative destruction

Oh God, please save us. Are we on the verge of evolution or destruction? On the technology front, we are assuming that making robots to take up mundane regular tasks is creative or progressive in nature. What if it turned out to be the worst ever invention of human history? Add AI to these bots and they can even think like Humans, at least that is the assumption as of now. Imagine a future where the bots with their intelligence ruling the humans who invented them. Isn't it scary?        Let us take a step back and see where did we go wrong. Today morning I had breakfast with couple of my classmates @ IIM Bangalore course. While having coffee I found that the disposable paper cups used for the coffee had a thin layer of wax and a plastic layer inside the cups making them carcinogenic. Introspecting it further, our own creation to make our lives easier has been the cause for our various diseases or rather destruction. So are we really ...

Evolution of the Service industry...in the making

I just got an   email   which just astonished me...we all know about Raymond Suiting’s. If you have not, it is one of the most popular fabric manufacture, suit makers and fashion designer in India since 1925. Well, the email was about Raymond suiting’s which has been popular in India since 1930s has brought tailoring services to your doorstep. I still remember the good old days of my father and grandfather when Raymond used to be the preferred Suiting’s and Shirting’s maker for any big occasions. Be it a marriage or house warming ceremony, Raymond was the first thought which used to strike in our minds. Even today I would still consider it among the top brands for stitched suits. No wonder it was ranked 23rd most trusted brand of India in 2014. What really shocks me was the step that big brands like Raymond are taking to move towards the Customer satisfaction? Yes they want to bring the service to the doorstep of the customer to save his time, energy and this bold step i...
