AI - an enabler or a destroyer?

We all know that ChatGPT is the buzzword of recent times. It is indeed the most revolutionary thing to have a conversational AI tool that can crack exams, write poems, code, help us in all ways possible. But is this a start of a new era which can destroy Human species or is this an aid to our living being? A big question, indeed. Let us find the answers.

Looking back at the history in India, when computers were introduced in Banks. Lot of banking folks felt scared to adapt to it, due to the fear of losing jobs. Fast forward to today, did they actually lose jobs? May be the ones who did not adapt and learn how to operate on a computer. The shift in the job did happen. Most of the bankers today use computers to operate. It has made their life easy. But at the same time, their mental capability has reduced.

In the process of making our life easy, we have create machines and delegate mundane tasks to them.  There is nothing wrong in it. As we progress, we have started giving our intelligence to these machines. Is this correct? Are we on the threshold of empowering some machine to think on our behalf? Will this mean the shift happens for good or bad?

This reminds me of what Einstein spoke about atomic bomb usage in 1946 at the Conference on Atomic Energy in Geneva. He clearly advocated the use of nuclear power for good purpose like generating energy rather than destruction. But we humans have a flaw. We look for shortcuts to gain power or influence, which makes us choose negative traits faster than positive ones.   A typical example being usage of nuclear power.

In the same lines, are we on the path to enable the AI's usage for our good?  A huge debate lies next. Prominent CEOs like Elon Musk does advocate limited use of generative AI. Google engineer's open talk on sentient AI and his firing has implanted a seed in our head. Is this dangerous path to take?

We, humans, are definitely guided and as part of our cycle, we may have to see the rise of AI. Adaptability and survival instinct has always led us to dominant the Nature rather than co-exist. Is it the Nature trying to dominate us thru AI?  After all,it is a karma indeed. Time will answer this.

I just pray that we learn good things and hope the world prospers for good!!!
