Bloom or just Survive!

Image
Lately I have been fascinated to know why the EdTech industry is crashing. Isn't that the topic running around in media now a days? This blog is not to assess that question, thou. We all know that EdTech as an industry is maturing itself. It saw its nascent stage, the growth and its consolidation. Time will tell us where does it lead us to. The current job losses in EdTech, the mergers and the hiccups in general will all settle down with time. Those who survive would definitely be the ones that stick to their value addition. It is not the marketing stunt, the cost factors, the current trends that will make a company survive, but the real value add to the customer (learners in this case). As the market consolidates, only few survive. I just hope the market correction leads to a better EdTech companies blooming rather than just surviving. Needless to say, the market correction takes care of it automatically.       Outside the EdTech industry, I believe ...

Future of learning

Future is ....  - World is changing at a pace that is unalarming in this 21st century. Uncertainty and complex situations are expected at a fast pace. Institutions are expected to adapt themselves and make way for future learners and tutors to adapt to it as well, emphasizing on learning.  - Students will become life long learners. Needs, preferences, choices and way of learning is changing among the learners. There short attention span, technologically exposure and engagement thru social media making learners (students) more vulnerable to focus less and ability to concentration less.  Expectation is to coach them to become creative problem solvers who adapts to any situation. - Tutors are expected to change from teaching to coaching the learners to think creatively, solve problems, adapt to new ways of learning (tutors to self learn as well as coach this).  They design challenging activities for learners to crack it.  - Content is expected to change to adapt to...

Kids today - Opportunity to learn anything?

Isn't it a great time to be a kid again? Imagine what all you can feed your curiosity and fill your thirst in today's world. Of course, I am talking about the knowledge and application of it. Kids today can learn what an adult learns. To the extent that there are opportunities to even open your own company. I kind of like what life is throwing up to them.      If you look at it from another perspective, probably it is quiet easy to feel lost in the midst of options available as a kid today. Too many choices available and yes focus will play the keep role here.  How about going thru few options as below? Lidolearning.com - A platform for kids to learn coding, maths, english and science in a fun way  Uable.com - A platform where kids can become creative ___.  You fill the ___ as storyteller, artist, astronomer .... u name it you put it. Momjunction.com/online-classes - Here you get any class for mostly Rs 99....do u want ur kids to lea...

Indian School of -----------?

What is it that education should teach us? Is it creativity or learning or both? Or is it the art of learning things quickly and with focus? Or is it just concentration like Swami Vivekananda taught us? Is it the character building to help us succeed in the real life? I will leave the thought for you to answer.          My question is can we find such a school today? At the end of the day, what are we producing, a bunch of craps? Should the character building be the foundation of any education system? I would prefer an old style Gurukul to learn than this system. Imagine each student getting an expertise as per his interests and inclination, just like Arjuna and Bheema learnt bow/arrow and gada (or mace) in Mahabharatha.          Here are few of my wishes, yeah quite interestingly odd enough => Indian School of Learning => Indian School of Hobbies                 ...

Learner or educated!

What matters most? Are you happy being a learner or getting educated? If the answer is learning, then I believe you would agree that we are on the right path. Getting educated is good but today's top innovators have proved that today's education system is destroying the self learning process.  Elon Musk, Bill Gates are few examples in US, Srinivasa Ramanujan a mathematical genius has proved that getting formal education is irrelevant.      The future of education lies in continuously unlearning and learning what is necessary. I would like to deviate a bit. Can you keep on learning something you are passionate about as long as you believe that is going to make a difference to the human kind? Wouldn't that be the more satisfactory than just learning what is necessary?      Life long learning is the need of the hour. Can I have an open program with universities and start learning every course that I am interested in at any stage of ...
