Passion called 'Cricket'
In India they say Cricket is a religion and not just a game. We Indians love this religion. To the extent that we call Sachin Tendulkar as God. Yes being so emotional in nature, we have our own ways to express our love. At times we take it to the extreme level, for instance the temple being built on MS Dhoni. With all due respect to Mahendra Singh Dhoni who has been the one of the great captains Indian Cricket has ever seen, building a temple might be a bit extreme. But don't forget that is what India is all about. Pure passion at play.
When I was young I got this fever called 'cricket' from my uncle who used to be crazy about it. Believe me his craze for the game just rubbed off on all of us. Legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Lala Amarnath, Gundappa Vishwanath were being praised for their cricketing styles. I used to watch the India vs Pakistan matches sitting along side my family. West Indies were being feared a lot in those days for they ruled the 70s and 80s of cricket era. Then came the legend Sachin Tendulkar who wrote the history of Indian cricket by his master stroke. Along side Sachin, we saw Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman in the batting arena while Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan were on the bowling side. It was a treat to watch them play.
Eventually time passed and the Indian cricket history was rewritten under the captaincy of MSD. Started with T20 world cup win in 2007, then the ODI world cup in 2011 was an other feather to our cap. It was a treat to our Indian fans to see this man's coolness and the helicopter shot. Now the legacy is being handed over to an emotional captain - Virat Kohli. One person who redefines the term passion is Virat. Today India won the ODI series against England under Virat's captaincy and his first series win as a captain.
Legends are being made as I write this blog. One common factor that drives these legends is their passionate attitude towards the game of Cricket. At least for most Indians, Cricket is a way of life.
