Gulbarga short trip - a traveller's delight!

The passion to travel was something I learnt from my wife. Since my marriage my travels have increased, call it fortunate or unfortunate (oh yes isn't it heavy on my purse :)). A right companion makes a whole lot of difference, be it for a short trip or in the travel of life. Travel is a great way to learn or enrich your knowledge. There is a saying in Kannada -Seek more by travelling or by reading books ("Desha nadu, Kosha oodu"). Why not do both - travel & read? To add to this, blog about it too. What actually I enjoy the most - you get to understand a city's culture, heritage, food, living styles, the way the people do business and even the politics at times. I am right now in Gulbarga (or Kalaburgi as per the official name) when I am writing this. The whole day today I spent in this city learning about this beautiful city and enjoyed it.
Kalaburgi has a rich traditions of both Hindu and Islamic culture. Islamic root came from Nizams who ruled this place when it was part of Hyderabad. For Hindus you will find Ganagapur, a place where God Dattatreya and his avatars - Narasimha Saraswati have stayed. Ganagapur is about 40 kilometres from Gulbarga and must place to visit if you want to see a Sadhguru. Inside the city of Gulbarga you have to visit
-         Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah
-         Jumma Masjid
-         SharanaBasaveshwara Temple
-         Buddha Vihar -  Buddha Vihar is a must see - a beautiful and peaceful place. It is about 12 kms from the city railway station and is situated just behind the Gulbarga University.
-         SharanaBasaveshwara appa lake
The city is a perfect example of cultural diversity - Hindus, Muslims and people of other religions staying together harmoniously. There is a museum too inside the city where you find the remains collected from Sannati, BasavaKalyan in them. You even find the Harappan valley stones in this museum.
Believe me I personally felt there is lot more to this city than what I saw in a day. It has its own taste of food culture. We did enjoy the Jowar roti meals at Guru Datta Hotel and Basava Bhavan near Railway station. Local food always has fascinated me. A walk around the park near the SharanaBasaveshwara Lake is a romantic getaway for those who enjoy the evening times.
Travel helps me to collect the memories and not just the things. As they say travel makes you modest, you just got to know how tiny a place you occupy in this world.
Be curious, be adventurous, just go and explore the world because those moments captured along the way are your best memories.
Discover the world in your eyes.
Just enjoy your way of travelling...
