83 - A cricketing era begins!

    Today is the last day of 2021. My way of entertaining myself is: going to a movie. What else is better than the recently hyped "83", a story of the 1983 Cricket World Cup won by the Indian team.

    It is a sports inspirational movie. Cricket in India is not a sport, it is a religion, as the saying goes. We worship Cricketers. But it all began in 1983, before that it was just a game. It is a movie worth watching, with a great performance by Ranveer Kapoor as Kapil Dev, the captain. 

      Few scenes are so heart-touching that they can bring down tears on your cheek. Like the rejection of the Indian team in Lord's ground as we were not yet recognized and respected in the cricketing arena yet. The financial situation of the Indian team was so bad that they were struggling to extend their return flight ticket for the semi-final and final game. When the cricketers got 15 pounds per day and Kapil had to wash his own clothes as it costs 12 pounds to get the laundry. A broken engagement of Sandhu due to his house being so small.

    Politically, it united India as depicted in the movie. Indira Gandhi, our PM at those times, used the matches as a diversion to avoid the clashes happening in Nawabpur and brought peace in the city. What a masterstroke that is. Indeed, cricket can unite a nation. 

    I learned a few things after watching the movie:

a) (Fact) India had won only 1 match till 1983 in a world cup. That's astonishing.

b) Respect is earned thru actions and performance. No one cares about your personal life.  It is the on-field performance that matters. 

c) Have a mad/crazy attitude that only win matters. No other options are allowed.

d) If you believe 183 is sufficient to defend, then Universe conspires you to act the same as your belief.

e) Use the inspiration for the greater good. Bring in the change needed.

   A movie that really inspires. Do watch it.
