Art of wasting time!
Today we have a lot of social networking sites which just kill your 2 hours like it is 2 minutes. Don't you agree? The havoc these sites have caused are immensely irreparable. Yet we are so addicted to these, especially the Facebook, that if you don't open it once a day and spend at least 5-10 minutes your friends might think you are not catching up. Being a social animal, you need to catch up with the trending videos/photos/gossips to boast things in the office. Did the truth offend you? If not, please continue reading. LinkedIn is another networking site that I usually login. It has articles that are really useful to me in the corporate world and is more professionally inclined.
I see a new habit that is creeping up - Cellphone gazing as I would like to call it. Every couple of mins we have made it a habit to look at the screens to see what new messages have come in. It reminds me of a short video from Simon Sinek who mentioned that such frequent distractions lead to less creativity. To be creative, you need to think over something for long duration. We humans evolve and unfortunately these new gadgets are taking us on the wrong path of evolution. With google or search engines, our memories are shrinking. Long hours in front of laptops, desktop are making us more lazy and leading to numerous new diseases you might have not heard of. All these makes me ask you - are we truly progressing?
Human virtues like patience is reducing. Since the game of T20 was introduced in cricket, one day matches which takes whole day has less viewership. Don't you agree? A kind gesture to your fellow colleague or lending the helping hand to the needy have become rare. You might 'like' these on the Facebook page though.
Worse, our linguistic ability is going for a toss(did I use the words correctly here! :)) with the whatsapp, hike shortcuts like TTYL, IDK, IMO. A new set of vocabulary is evolving....hope it is not for the worse.
Even today I value the age old fashion of reading the newspaper (I meant the paper based one) and not the e-paper. Of course with a cup of hot coffee. I love to play games on the field - Table Tennis being my favourite.
Modernity has its perks but let us not forget the discomfort it has already brought.
What say? or did I waste your time too? :-)
