Ethical dilemma in Judicial system!
Justice. Do you quantify the settlement of a justice in terms of money or as an apology from the culprit for the loss he has made to the victim? To add to this, imagine if the victim's loss is his health or even worse the life of someone in his family. Can you replace the loss of a life lost with money? Companies are here to make money or profits understood. The real question is at what cost - environment surrounding you is being polluted. Is that the gift we are giving our next generation?Would you be happy to settle for some money if the polluted water causes death in your family?
The 1998 hollywood movie 'A Civil Action' is based on all these ethical issues. Be it environmental issues or ethical dilemma in the workplace or for that matter the change needed in the judicial system. After all does money compensate for all your loss? Isn't there any higher cause than the money? It leads to numerous questions and probably even more challenges we have in our judicial system. Does it call for a change in the judicial system which compensates the loss in terms of money in civil cases?
You might have read about the Bellandur lake fire incident in Bangalore. It is the third time in past 6 months the lake has caught fire due to the toxic chemicals as a byproduct of the industrial waste is put into. What does the KSPCB (Karnataka State Pollution Control Board) do? Blame it on the BBMP, BWSSB & BDA by sending them the notice. Such a sad state of affairs.
Do you think a petition on the change.org would help bring in real change? Lot of questions need to be answered. A city with around 105 lakhs, hardly has 4 to 5 lakhs which has water that is drinkable. Lawful action has to be taken against whom? If the builders surrounding the lake are to be blamed for encroachment, why is the BDA so silent?
Living for a cause has taken precedence in today's world. Business is also about keeping values intact rather than just making profit. It is high time we (Indians) start looking for a healthier and happier society.
Hope to see the real action taken by Government for such incidents for a better society.
