Avarekalu Usli - a traditional mouthwatering dish

Image
It is december and what better for us Kannadigas than to savor the taste of the avarekalu usli. It is our pride dish and is best enjoyed with the akki roti. When prepared in the traditional way at home with the right amount of butter, it is just finger licking good. If you are interested to know the recipe and how to prepare it, here is the avarekalu usli video for you.       It is my pride to introduce you to this homely dish that we Kannadigas just love. For those of you who are wondering what it looks like, here is one image: Courtesy - Internet          I am sure the foodies in Karnataka love this very much. Not to mention it is a common house dish prepared across Karnataka especially during December & January of every year. The avarekayi or the seed is usually available at this time of the year.          It takes me back to my childhood memories of this dish being prepared wit...

'Be U' - Bengaluru Logo

Image
What is the significance of a logo?         Does a city need a logo?         Is it just to create a brand name?         Whom are we competing with?         I am sure you would have a number of other questions. The answer is simple. It is a marketing strategy. As any company would like to create a brand for itself, what is wrong in creating a brand for our city. Bengaluru has taken the first step towards this. Not that Bengaluru needed to emphasize its brand thru a logo. To me Bengaluru had created a brand for itself.  Needless to say the logo just added more value to its brand name. For those of you who are yet to see the logo, here it is Photo Courtesy  https://www.thenewsminute.com/article/be-you-namma-bengaluru-gets-its-own-logo-reflective-its-open-culture-73665 The creators of this logo - Rushi Patel and M VenkateswaraRao has ensured that the design ...

Less drama, more fun!

I love movies as you might already know. By the way I have a vivid taste of liking crime thrillers which gives me goose pumps. I am not too much in to drama either on the screen or off it. My preference has been to keep less drama in life which makes it more fun. Wouldn't it be so simple to experience less of drama in everything? Keep life simple.        Patience, tolerance can guide us thru the tough times in life. I have found a better way to see thru it lately. Thanks to meditation course that I took up and that way is 'Silence'. It just builds the resilience to get past your unnecessary drama in life.       It is for you to decide who you want to keep in your life and whom to remove. Lean principles talk about eliminate waste to make the process more efficient. I wish there is a simpler way to apply this to our life. I recently saw a short video/talk on Linkedin on how to improve your life. A simple checklist with list...

Western template on India?

As you all know, since 1991 we are trying to mimic what the western culture is all about. Yes there are few advantages we have seen like the time taken to withdraw money from Banks or how every item in life is getting converged to an app on a mobile. I do appreciate the good things that we have seen in the past two and a half decades. We got to see the mall culture for better. But have we progressed? That is something to ponder over.       A country that was once so rich in culture around 800 years back, now is struggling to keep up its own culture. Does it mean we have progressed? In olden days, there was more respect for elders, teachers, parents than what we see today. Values were preferred over money.  Ethically isn't that a better option to have more values than money. Yes money can't buy everything, definitely not happiness, honesty, loyalty. The question that is bothering me is have we comprised our quality (value system) for the sake of...

The fourth idly!

Here is a story I read long time back and I keep repeating it to my wife as 'The fourth idly'.     Two friends met over a breakfast. One of them is very hungry and orders 2 idlies. He hogs it but that does not fulfill his stomach. So he orders couple of more delicious idlies. He finds that he is full after the fourth idly. Suddenly he thinks what if I had the fourth idly first. Wouldn't that one (the fourth one) idly filled my stomach? You might call it as naive but a beautiful message is hidden in this story.  Those first three idlies that he ate are the foundation which made him full once he completes the fourth one.       Bottom line of this story is we need to go thru the process rather than just the end result. It has occurred to me that couldn't I have had done this degree or certification earlier in my life, wouldn't that have made me successful or better prepared? Looks to me that the dots I am trying to connect had not reached to the...

My rapping...

My first try on rapping...enjoy it. "Just dance but not to flaunt Just fancy your chance to haunt Just be happy for your stunt Just enjoy the jaunt  Just make every move count Just live the life you want without a taunt" Wonder what got me today? I just rapped. Actually am surprised at my creativity.

Playing with clay

As November 5th, was our 3rd wedding anniversary, me and my wife went to Innovative Film City to celebrate. We enjoyed the whole day in the film city which is in Bidadi around 20 kilometers from Bangalore. Out of all the attractions (wax museum, aqua world, dinosaur world, go-karting, cricket zone, big boss house tour, kabali walkthru, bouncing...) that we enjoyed, one which stood out for me was Pottery making workshop.         I always wanted to make my hands dirty by playing with clay. It was my first experience with trying to make something using the clay mud. Believe me it was awesome 15 minutes that I completely lost myself enjoying how to make the vase.  I owe it to my pottery guru Venkatesh who helped me make it. He said he is from a village near to Bidadi and has been doing it since his childhood in his village. His simplicity in explanation gave me the taste of what it takes to make your hands dirty with ease.   ...

Ultimate competition!

Image
My recent fascination has been reading quotes from Buddha. Give it a try. You will definitely benefit from it. It just gives me the positive energy to start my day.  Here is one of my favourite quote. Courtesy - Internet         For all those management students, isn't this what Maslow conveyed in his hierarchy of needs theory? This probably stands at the top of what his hierarchy says - Self Actualization. In short what he intended to say is when a man's basic needs (physiological & safety needs) are satisfied, he would look at higher purpose in life. What better than trying to prove himself, that he can reach his full potential? Isn't the ultimate competition for a man is himself? Think over it.         Now let me get back to Buddha's saying "Prove yourself to yourself, not others". If you can make the external competition irrelevant in your life, believe me you have reached heights. All the co...

Boomerang!

Karma is so often linked to boomerang at play. It is believed that both have one thing in common. What you throw, comes back to you. A simple funda yet is probably the essence of  our existence. Our actions, deeds are all supposed to come back....does it make sense to keep it good? If at all if everyone knows this, then I wonder why such pain and agony exists in this world.          I was watching a YouTube video today morning on the laws of karma. One law which really stuck me is "when you believe something to be true, at some point of time life puts you into a situation to prove what you believed". Isn't every moment of your life being manifested either by your own thoughts or deeds?  Well it could possibly be your manifestation or someone close to you who has prayed for you. Let us pray that others have good intentions while manifesting on your behalf.           On my sincere quest...

Today's irony

Image
Pic courtesy - Internet      Yes indeed, this picture conveys more meaning than you could ever imagine. Inequality among the society is one such message that is being conveyed.      The real question is what are you as a human going to do about this. Thinking as an economists, you may argue that inequality in the society is what drives the economy. But wouldn't you agree with me that this inequality has gone beyond the limits.        Imagine a world where the most developed country would help the least one like Zimbabwe, Burundi to come out of poverty. Wouldn't the world be a better place to live? Financial aid is the last thing in my mind. I am talking about helping the country's progress in all aspects through collaborative governments in areas of industrial production, employment, education, healthcare. It is normal to think what would the developed country gain out of this? How about some ...

Colorful vibrant day!

Good morning or good day. A wish that you usually hear the first thing in the morning. A simple smile, a greeting that makes it more beautiful is what we crave to make our day better. Even better if it is followed up with a positive affirmative thoughts. What about a hot coffee? For those caffeine addicts it would be a dream come true to hold the morning newspaper with an aromatic coffee in their hand.         A jog or a walk early in the morning is just life breather. Cool breeze falling on your face, enlightening your mood will be a perfect bliss. How about some music to aid your exercise regime? Wouldn't it be icing on the cake? Isn't it the perfect way to start your day?         A good bath followed with some meditation to give it a perfect finish to the early morning start. So wonderful and yet so elegant way to make you day perfect. Life is so simple when we start enjoying the beauty of the nature and its...
