The fourth idly!
Here is a story I read long time back and I keep repeating it to my wife as 'The fourth idly'.
Two friends met over a breakfast. One of them is very hungry and orders 2 idlies. He hogs it but that does not fulfill his stomach. So he orders couple of more delicious idlies. He finds that he is full after the fourth idly. Suddenly he thinks what if I had the fourth idly first. Wouldn't that one (the fourth one) idly filled my stomach? You might call it as naive but a beautiful message is hidden in this story. Those first three idlies that he ate are the foundation which made him full once he completes the fourth one.
Bottom line of this story is we need to go thru the process rather than just the end result. It has occurred to me that couldn't I have had done this degree or certification earlier in my life, wouldn't that have made me successful or better prepared? Looks to me that the dots I am trying to connect had not reached to the point where I could have taken it up any sooner than when necessary. Some may call these as karma or destiny, but you need to go through the paths of current laid plans to reach the end goal.
If only we all knew the paths to our destination (or goal) earlier and knew the short cuts. My question is do we know the paths at all? If you think everything is pre wired and bound to destiny, then is there a need for such thing called 'will power'? Just a thought can we change our predestined process using our indomitable will power? Some thoughts to ponder over.
I believe it is possible if you think you can. You may not be able to change the past, but the current karmas are the future destined paths. At present if I do my karma properly with good intent and wish, I believe the future best paths gets laid by itself. Isn't it like we are rewiring our own future thru what we do? Well the catch lies in we cannot escape from the karmas that has already been done in the past life and have to bear the consequences.
Isn't the man the maker of his own destiny? What do you think?
