A seedless papaya!
Today my dad cut a papaya fruit for us to eat. What we all wondered was when it was cut opened, not a single seed was seen. Isn't it surprising that the very true nature of plants and animals is to reproduce and survive? Of course, we (humans) have one more ability that is not just reproduce but pass on the knowledge gained to the next generation. But seeing an seedless one, just shock me.
After all, we all strive to survive and prosper. But in the midst of this so called survival, I just hope humans have not dominated to the extent that we have killed the instinct of survival of many other living things in this world. Did our greed of growing more plants led to increase in chemicals added to plants? Did this have an indirect impact on a seedless papaya? Should we be happy that we dominated over the nature? Or sad that we are about to kill a species?
'Save Soil' initiative by Isha foundation Sadguru, is one solution to the above. We are so engrossed in trying to control and dominate the Mother Nature, that we did not realize that pesticides are spoiling the soil fertility as most of the organisms needed to make it fertile are dying. After all if this continues, our next generations might have to eat lab-grown food. Not a bad idea, you might say. But where does the nutrients come from in a lab grown food? Isn't that again chemicals added? Aren't we disturbing the ecosystem by being unsustainable?
The Mother Nature will have a revenge on us for sure. That is if we do not learn from our mistakes. 'Organic' farming is the new buzzword. But as the prices of these organic products are more, we might have to look at economies of scale to reduce its price. Maybe we can help our bit by buying them. Obvious reasons why organic products have not scaled is its affordability and we are looking for a lower price.
Save the Earth. Live and let live.
Let us all prosper together rather than dominant one over another.
