Real challenge in IT Support!

For a change I wanted to write on something related to work. For those who don't know, I work in Information Technology and in a technical support role. Let me convey this, I love my job. Yes I have always enjoyed my job. It feels great to even say this.
With 13 years of experience in my field of work, I see major hiccups in this field is not the expertise in your work but simple co-ordination among the team members.  A task however simple it is, when done well leads to so much of satisfaction to us. Don't you agree? Imagine all those pieces of work giving satisfaction to individuals but as a team unable to add those pieces to make it a frame. That is the challenge I see.
I am sure you would have played the game of Dumb Charades. It involves word guessing by a team when an individual is showcasing it thru actions (lip sealed!!) and strictly no talking. I have always felt that this game is an icebreaker  for an newbie and is an excellent team building activity. You know your partner or team mate better when you can understand his language thru signs.
A simple test to you, if I ask you to write a half moon on an empty sheet and ask your team mate to write another half moon on another empty sheet, do you guarantee that you get a full moon when combined unless they have spoken to each other? Well what is the probability that you get full moon when you have at least 10 folks in your team each handed a piece of paper to write 1/10th of moon.
What is the real need of the hour in our IT industry, especially in our support role? Technical expertise, quick thinking ability helps a lot, but the real challenge is to co-ordinate within the team and with external teams with ease. The challenge is bigger when your team is scattered across multiple places in the country, let alone across the world.  Today's technology also boasts of the video conferences, tele conferences where the two ends of the worlds meet. But wouldn't you agree that it is no better than a face to face conversation over a coffee at the office pantry. Ha...call me old styled, but I still enjoy the old way any day.

If you want to go fast, go alone
if you want to go far, go together.
                                    ~ African proverb
