99% giving...nah!

Hmmm...you heard it right! It is 99% giving. What makes you think I left the 1%? Do you think I missed the 1% on purpose? Is it the same logic of marketer's funda of selling a product at 99.9 rupees instead of the round figure 100 rupees? Nah...you may be able to fool the consumers using your marketing logic of not using 0 as suffix or rather the number of digits you use, but in the world of giving - no, you cannot. Give it 100% always.         Why do you need to give it 100%? You might say my intent is good (almost 99%) and I have a doubt whether I get back my returns of what I gave (1%). You lost the move! Never think of returns when you give, that is the true good intent. That is why give 100%.         I don't like marketing for just one reason. You need to lie and be unethical about how you sell. Oh, may be that is two reasons. Selling is about building the perception of an orange in mind of consumer when you are...

Understanding 'Why'!

Image
You might have heard of Simon Sinek, one of the best motivational speakers in this world.  This blog is dedicated to his topic  'Start with Why' . Please watch this before we proceed.         As Simon explains the concept of Golden Circle, the inspired organisations and inspired leaders are the ones who travel from the inner most circle of Why to the outer most circle of What unlike the rest. I hope that makes a huge difference. Photo Courtesy - Babak Mohammadi's Linkedin article (Internet)           Yes it is true that the question of 'Why' is at most importance and we need to address the purpose first. An analogy to the spiritual world - Intent behind every work matters and if it is good you are bound to achieve success in it. In the corporate world, understanding the purpose behind the customer's need is your first step. Marketing a product also starts with the addressing the either customer...

Job or Career - Which one do you prefer?

Image
Interestingly we hear in the corporate world that the career of the employees matter rather than just a job. I suppose you know the difference already. Yes the whole world of recruitment is also job-oriented rather than career-oriented. If you are being interviewed for your career and not just a job, consider yourself lucky. The usual practice in any interview, is to wind it up with an HR round before you are offered a job (believe me we should change our perception to offer a 'career' and not just a 'job').  These HR round of interview has some inclination towards finding out what you want to do in the next year or 3 years or 5 years. It is just a way to understand if you have some plan for your future or if you are ambitious enough.       An obvious thing about the interviews is that you bloat up (or sell yourself well) your experience a bit, be it either on resume or verbally. Isn't it true that we all do this? Yes if you are honest and it i...

Raees...wrong message conveyed!

This is my opinion of the movie 'Raees'.        On seeing the movie 'Raees' today, I wanted to understand the intent of the director. Yes it is a good entertainer, when it comes to the message it conveys, it is a bit misleading. About  70% of the movie it shows a lead character rising from the bottom using unethical means to grow the business. At last he may die, but glorying a man who chose wrong path to achieve his means and then saying he was killed, because he chose the path does not send correct message to the audience. I agree Indian audience are matured to understand it, but how much percentage of it.        It is a movie inspired from the real life story of Gujrat's don Abdul Latif. Abdul had middle-class upbringing who went on to own the illegal liquor empire in Gujrat was the most wanted criminal in 1980s & 1990s. He was even the right hand of the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Abdul was finally kille...

Gulbarga short trip - a traveller's delight!

The passion to travel was something I learnt from my wife. Since my marriage my travels have increased, call it fortunate or unfortunate (oh yes isn't it heavy on my purse :)).  A right companion makes a whole lot of difference, be it for a short trip or in the travel of life.  Travel is a great way to learn or enrich your knowledge. There is a saying in Kannada -Seek more by travelling or by reading books ("Desha nadu, Kosha oodu"). Why not do both - travel & read? To add to this, blog about it too. What actually I enjoy the most - you get to understand a city's culture, heritage, food, living styles, the way the people do business and even the politics at times. I am right now in Gulbarga (or Kalaburgi as per the official name) when I am writing this. The whole day today I spent in this city learning about this beautiful city and enjoyed it.         Kalaburgi has a rich traditions of both Hindu and Islamic culture. Islam...

Foodie at heart!

Being foodie at heart, I enjoy my food everywhere. Italian pastas being my favourite food especially if my wife makes it. I love the ragi roti with curd, vegetable pulao made by my mom and the akki roti with avarekalu usli.  Here are few places where I had finger licking good food: (1) Vidyarthi Bhavan , Basavangudi, Bangalore          The dosa and the rava wada is too good to leave you craving for more. Start with rava wada and then have a dosa or two to fulfill your taste buds and end it with a coffee. Price is reasonable but you get to taste the best dosa of Bangalore per my view. Chutney you get with dosa or the rava wada is finger licking good. (2) MTR - Mavalli Tiffin Room , Lal Bagh Main Road, Sampangi Rama Nagar, Bangalore         For Bangaloreans I don't need to describe the Rava Idli taste of MTR. If you have been to Bangalore and not visited MTR, then you are missing out the pleasure of Karnataka food. Apa...

Laugh away the medicine!!!

Happiness is a craving now a days everyone of us have. How do you fulfill it? Spiritual gurus say it is something that comes from your inside and cannot be obtained from the materialistic world. I would agree. What makes me happy? A cute smile from a kid, a comedy movie, a whats app joke from a friend, my wife's sense of humor and of course writing blogs just makes me happy. A job well done at the office with focus and commitment, is for few just contentment, but for me it also makes me happy.        Laugh they say is a good medicine to cure many a disease. No wonder we start seeing laughing clubs at parks now a days. A heartful laugh is contagious. Imagine you are in an environment where everyone laughs always. Wouldn't the world be a better place or rather happier place?      Joy is something you derive out of sheer unselfish acts. A kind act of giving alms to the poor and needy, donating to CRY foundation or a volunteering in...
